La demarche s’inscrit dans la même veine que l’Association Hermione-La Fayette à Rochefort qui s’est lancée dans une l’aventure de la reconstruction de la frégate Hermione, navire, qui 80 ans après le dernier vaisseau de 58 canons offert à Jean Bart par Louis XIV, le Fendant en rade de Dunkerque permit à La Fayette de rejoindre les insurgés américains en lutte pour leur indépendance.
